Christian Counseling
Desperate Prayers Are Usually The Shortest - Where Are You, GOD? Do You See Me? Why?
Friend, you are likely weary from the fight. Yes, there are real symptoms: Worry that keeps you up at night. Heaviness that makes you feel like you want to stay in bed. Or, just not feeling like you.
A professional Christian counselor is not only trained to work through issues like anxiety and depression—they may also talk about the spiritual warfare you might be facing. They have the expertise to work with you through mental health issues, but also point you to the Deliverer, Jesus Christ. “When the righteous call for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” (Psalms 34:17)
You may feel a deep sense of discontent—even though everything around you seems like it is “okay”. Counseling that is faith-based doesn’t ignore the reality of your felt experience, but it might dig deeper and ask questions like; What do you feel like God is doing? Do you have a sense of God calling you to something else?
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth…and the truth will set you free” (John 16:13, John 8:32).
When you work with a counselor from Hope Healing, you will receive Christian Counseling— Biblically informed, spirit-filled, compassionate care combined with clinical excellence.

Oftentimes, Spiritual Dynamics Are Co-Occuring With Mental Health Issues
Have you struggled with feelings of anxiety or depression, but deep down you know that there is also something else going on?
Counseling that validates real mental health concerns while also seeking to understand the spiritual dynamics is important. This may be the missing component in your search for help.
Dr. Elijah Lee and his team have studied not only the counseling sciences but also take seriously the Scriptures and what it has to say about spiritual dynamics. There is also a growing body of science that validates concerns related to spirituality.
“But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14, NASB).
You may have experienced times where you felt like everything was going right in a relationship, and suddenly, there is conflict and hurt on both sides.
Conventional methods like active listening, assertiveness, and owning your side of it can be helpful, but what is unspoken may be the reality that relationships—especially those that are dedicated to God —are prone to spiritual attack. Prayer alongside conventional psychotherapy methods may also be beneficial, especially if you are a Christian looking for marriage counseling.
A quote from CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters describes balancing out emphases as they relate to spiritual warfare and dynamics:
“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”
Whether you need individual Christian counseling or couples counseling, at Hope Healing, you will have someone to support you in your corner who is both psychologically trained and spiritually attuned.
What Christian Counseling Looks Like
So, by now, you may be thinking you want to work with a Christian therapist, and you’re wondering what that might look like.
At Hope Healing, we strive to offer authentic human connection that combines clinical excellence with reliance on the Holy Spirit. We are trained professionals in relational dynamics, and although we seek to incorporate your faith into counseling, your unique story is important to us. We understand that you may have come to our office because you have been hurt by spiritual leaders or the church and carry religious trauma, and therefore, need therapy to heal.
A Trauma-Informed, Attachment-Based Approach
If you are doubting your sense of self, experiencing difficulty rebuilding trust with others (and perhaps God), a therapeutic approach that is highly relational—attuned to your woundings, both past and present—is important. That is why, at Hope Healing, our counselors take a trauma-informed approach to faith-based counseling with an embedded attachment-based framework.
For example, we may use:
● Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) – This therapy modality looks to undo loneliness, heal trauma, and transform suffering into flourishing. (You can read more about it on our “AEDP” page.)
● Attachment Therapy – The approach foundational for most of our work essentially emphasizes the importance of healing through safe relationships. (A more comprehensive explanation will be featured on this site in the future)
While the counselors at Hope Healing are equipped to deal with a variety of issues, each clinician has their unique approach and personality. (You can learn more about them through their profiles.)
Honoring Your Unique Faith Story
We are committed to taking the time to make meaning of your unique faith story through sound clinical insights, interventions, and faith-based counseling. That means aiming to understand your unique faith culture, first, and then using evidence-based approaches in the field of Christian counseling. During sessions, we seek to foster insight and, as you feel comfortable, allow God into the process through prayer or talk therapy.
Christian counseling services are a unique form of counseling/therapy. Dr. Elijah Lee and his team continue to keep up to date on modern approaches and scientific literature, while also leaning into their own relationship with God and applying knowledge from a community of scholars/practitioners that have expertise in the area of Christian psychotherapy.
Questions/Concerns You May Still Have About Christian Counseling
-
When you’ve experienced what you have, false hope doesn’t help. We cannot guarantee outcomes. However, we will seek to earn your trust every session. And, if at any time (even the first session) you don’t feel comfortable, you can discontinue services. No hard feelings.
-
No. We seek to understand your unique desires first before we do anything. If you are a person who appreciates the inclusion of Scripture and desires its sound counsel, we can certainly talk about it then.
-
This is a hard question to answer because the time it takes to heal can be different for each person. What we can assure you of is that we are committed to walking with you—whatever time it takes.
We also offer extended 75-minute sessions for those who would like a little bit more time to process their issues.
